Fórum Mecânica will hold the 2nd edition of FCTalks, a debate whose main theme will be the “Energy Future in Portugal”. At this event, you will be able to hear the opinions and testimonies of five energy experts, in a heavyweight panel, with guests Dr. Jean Barroca, Professor Horácio Fernandes, Professor Paulo Ferrão, Professor Pedro Carvalho and Engineer André dos Santos. The event will take place on 3 June, at 5:30 pm, in the Abreu Faro Amphitheatre, with free participation, subject to registration via the link in our Instagram bio.

Mecânica da Coisa is a podcast developed by Fórum Mecânica, with the support of the Santander Universidades Prize. Afonso Quintas is 26 years old and is Marketing and Communication Director at Leça FC. On 11 April the second general student assembly took place with the following agenda: Review of the Activity Plan for the 2024/25 term; Review of the Budget for the 2024/25 term; Other matters.

Between 7 and 11 April, the Easter Holiday Week took place at Técnico, where we welcomed secondary school students for our Mechanical Engineering activity, the Hydraulic Gripper. The hydraulic gripper consists of rigid bars and a hydraulic system that uses the force generated by fluid pressure, in this case water, to move the claws and grasp objects, based on principles such as Pascal's Law and Hydraulics.

On 5 April, Fórum Mecânica took part in the Instituto Superior Técnico Open Day, where 3,000+ people came to see what the institution has to offer. It is a pleasure and a privilege for us to be present on this day, making our contribution and broadening the horizons of Engineering.

On 28 and 29 March, we took part in Futurália, at an event we consider extremely important, both for us, as an association promoting Mechanical Engineering, and for the students who were there and who may belong to our community in the future. In addition, it is also an opportunity for our members to develop new skills and make new contacts, broadening their horizons.

FCTour is a trip through Central and Northern Portugal, where Mechanical Engineering students will have the opportunity to visit companies in the sector, interact with industry and explore places of cultural and historical interest. It will last 4 days (3 nights) and the registration fee is 50⚙, which includes transport, study visits to the companies, accommodation and meals (lunch and dinner). Breakfast is not included. 22 April 2025: Departure from Lisbon (7:30 am) and visit to Schaeffler Portugal and Fravízel. 1st Night in Caldas da Rainha; 23 April 2025: Visit to Airbus Atlantic Portugal. 2nd Night in Porto; 24 April 2025: Visit to Adamastor Supercars. 3rd Night in Porto; 25 April 2025: Arrival in Lisbon (7:00 pm). On 11 March, REN will hold an Open Day at its facilities in Lisbon. The event is expected to take place throughout the whole of the 11th, with the possibility for participants to leave early if they wish. This exclusive event is an excellent opportunity for students who wish to explore the world of energy and get to know REN's activity more closely. MecanIST is back! This year the event features 47 companies, 10 talks, 10 roundtables and other activities. From 24 to 27 February, the Central Pavilion of Instituto Superior Técnico will fill up for the sharing of knowledge in Mechanical Engineering.

Are practical projects important in Mechanical Engineering? On the 13th, from 2 pm to 4 pm, in a room to be announced, there will be an open conversation about the role of the various types of PICs and Master's Theses and their importance in the training of Mechanical Engineers, organised by Fórum Mecânica and bOOmE. On Monday 9 December, Fórum Mecânica will hold a surf lesson! The activity will take place at Costa da Caparica, at the SurfLab Surf School. The event will start at 2:00 pm and its duration will depend on the number of participants. Each lesson will last 1h20m. Registration: The cost of the activity varies according to participation; the larger the number of participants, the lower the price. If the cost is reduced, the difference will be refunded to you. On 2 December there will be a visit to the premises of Accenture, which provides consulting in the field of Mechanical Engineering. It will coincide with the open day held by the company for Mechanical Engineering students at Técnico. This initiative, besides allowing you to see the work environment related to Mechanical Engineering, will give students direct contact with this company and let them learn a little more about the projects it develops. The visit will take place between 4 pm and 7 pm on the 2nd and, as mentioned above, will be at Accenture's premises in Lisbon (Edifício Santos 37, Boqueirão do Duro, nº 37 D-E 1200-163 Lisbon, Portugal). On 18 November, Fórum Mecânica will hold a talk on Erasmus opportunities and International Master's programmes. This is a great occasion to hear accounts and experiences from Mechanical Engineering students who decided to study outside Portugal, both through Erasmus programmes and in master's programmes at prestigious universities around the world! The talk will take place at 5:30 pm, in room V0.02, Civil Engineering Pavilion, and will feature several speakers, each sharing their experience in a different country. This is a unique opportunity to clear up doubts about application processes, cultural differences, adapting to the international academic environment, and much more. On Monday 23 September, IST Mechanical Engineering students will have the opportunity to visit the premises of Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS (Lisbon). Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS is an association founded by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft - the largest research organisation in Europe - and seeks to explore technological innovations, with a focus on improving the quality of life of its customers. On this visit, students will be able to meet the researchers at Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS and learn about their academic and professional paths. The visit will run from 2:30 pm to 5 pm and is free. Students must make their own way to the premises (Avenida Prof. Gama Pinto 3). Registrations are now closed.

On 16 October, we will have a visit to TAP's Maintenance facilities, at Humberto Delgado Airport, which is part of the Open Day held by TAP for Mechanical Engineering students at Técnico. This visit will take place in the afternoon between 1 pm and 6 pm on the 16th and is intended for 3rd-, 4th- and 5th-year students. The visit will include the following areas: • Aircraft Base Maintenance; • Component Maintenance; • Engine Maintenance; • Integrated Operations Centre; • TAP Campus; • TAP-ME At the end of the visit, TAP will provide a coffee break. Participation is free, however participants must make their own way there, with the meeting point at 12:30 pm at the metro station exit at the Airport. Around 11:45 am we will also have a meeting point at Técnico, for anyone who wants to travel as a group to the Airport by metro. TAP allows a group of at most 25 people, and we will prioritise sign-up order. Therefore, we will not be able to meet the expectations of all potentially interested students.
